What is microfiber?

Microfiber is a type of yarn with a thickness of less than 10 micrometers (1μm = 1/1000mm, 0.001 mm), made from nylon and polyester. For towels, it typically consists of 80% polyester and 20% polyamide (nylon). Microfiber is characterized by a star-shaped thread in which a nylon core is surrounded by polyester structures. Thanks to this construction of microfiber threads, this material is exceptionally absorbent.

Advantages of microfiber towels:

A quick-drying microfiber towel can absorb up to 7 times more moisture than its original weight (and 3 tmes more moisture than a similar cotton towel). Thanks to capillary forces, microfiber seems to literally soak up moisture. For this reason, the skin surface becomes dry after a single wipe with a microfiber towel. Even a small towel (50x100cm) is enough to wipe an average-sized adult dry.

Since the microfiber yarn is 30 times finer than that of cotton, the distance between the individual fibers is much greater, which gives the material its lightness and flexibility. It also increases the amount of air flowing through the material, which in turn allows the microfiber to dry quickly (hence the name: quick-drying towel). This prevents the growth of bacteria or mold, which gives the microfiber its hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties.
